Face Pass for Guest

Expedite check-in with a credential that a visitor will never lose

Face Pass allows returning guests who have opted-in to skip through previously completed Guest sign-in steps using facial recognition. Admins can configure which steps may be skipped using pins. Guests can choose to opt in or opt out of the feature in the final step of the sign-in process when they review their information to confirm accuracy. Face data will not be captured until the Guest opts-in.

System requirements

  • iPad running iPadOS 17 or newer

  • Guest app running version 2.0.2 or newer

  • (Recommended) Front camera resolution of at least 12 MP

Enable Face Pass

Face Pass must be turned on at the organization level and for each Guest Type that needs to support Face Pass.

Organization level

You need Org Admin to turn on Face Pass.

In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Workplace > Guest.

On the left navigation, click Guest Settings.

At the top, select Organization > Security & Data.

Toggle on Enable Face Pass.

Edit a Guest Type.

Pin desired steps to be skipped when Face Pass is used.

Verify the following information is included in the Guest Type:

a. Contact Info b. Badge Photo

On the right panel, toggle on Enable Guest Pass, and check the box for Enable Face Pass.

Toggle on Review & Confirm Info.

​Note: If this is not enabled, users will not see the option to use Face Pass.

It may take iPads in a site up to 5 minutes to reflect Face Pass on the Guest Types.

Opt-in to Face Pass

At the end of sign-in, visitors will have the option to turn on Face Pass.

Once Face Pass is turned on, visitors can use the feature in future visits.

Use Face Pass

Face Pass may be used on any iPad that features Guest Types that have Face Pass enabled. Face Pass is not supported for web check-in.

Returning visitors who have opted-in to Face Pass will see the option to use Face Pass at the Contact Info step.

Visitors can turn off Face Pass at the end of the sign-in process in the review section. This will apply to future visits.

A visitor’s Face Pass will expire if unused for over 1 year.

FAQ

What data does Face Pass collect?

Face Pass uses facial recognition to measure the facial geometry (face data) of guests to identify their face for a faster check in experience.

Where is Face Pass not supported?

Face Pass is not supported in Illinois and Portland, Oregon. Facial recognition may be subject to legal restrictions in your jurisdiction. Before deployment, ensure your compliance with all applicable laws or policies.

Does Face Pass work across sites?

No, enrolling in Face Pass will only allow a face to be recalled for a single site. Guests are expected to re-enroll in Face Pass when visiting new sites.

How do pins work with Face Pass?

Previously-completed steps that are pinned under the guest-type in Command can be skipped by guests who have opted-in to Face Pass.

How do guests enable Face Pass?

After guests provide their guest profile information and confirm it is accurate, if Face Pass is enabled by the organization, the guest will see an option to enroll in Face Pass. To opt in, guests need to tap "Turn on Face Pass" during the check-in process. This step is voluntary.

How long is face data retained, and where?

If a match is made, the face data will be encrypted and stored both on device and backed up in the cloud up to one year from the last time your face data is captured using Face Pass in accordance with the organization’s privacy settings. Face data resulting in a match will either replace the face data stored from the prior visit, or be deleted. If no match is made, the face data will be deleted.

Can a guest delete their face data?

Returning guests who have opted in to Face Pass can later opt-out if they change their mind by toggling Face Pass off on the Review screen at the end of the guest check-in process. Opting out will result in the deletion of their face data from the device and the cloud.

Do other companies have access to guest face data?

No. Verkada does not enable sharing of guest face data across different Verkada Guest customers.
