Learn how to limit user access to a Command organization

Updated over a week ago

The Temporary Users feature is a category of users that can be granted all regular Verkada Command roles (although they cannot perform a few restricted actions), for a predetermined period. At the end of this period, the user’s Command access is automatically revoked (via deactivation).

This feature is intended to enable third parties, such as installers, contractors, and so on to perform necessary tasks without the need for unlimited access to a customer’s Command organization.

Required. Only users with the ability to add new users can add temporary users. This can be Org Admins and Site Admins, depending on how custom roles are configured in your organization. Learn more about Roles and Permissions for Command.

Add a temporary user

To invite a temporary user to your Command organization:

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Admin.

  2. In the left navigation, select Org Settings > Users.

  3. At the top right, select Add User.

  4. On Add User:

    1. Enter the user's first name, last name, and email address.

    2. Toggle on Temporary.

    3. Click the Allow access until dropdown and set the date for when the temporary user's access to your organization should be revoked.

    4. Review and click Add to invite the temporary user to your organization.

Modify a temporary user

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Admin.

  2. In the left navigation, select Org Settings > Users.

  3. Next to the user’s name, click and select Temporary User Settings.

  4. Adjust the time period for the temporary user who has access to your organization.

  5. (Optional) You can promote the temporary user to having full access to the organization.

Note: When you upgrade a temporary user to full user, the user becomes a permanent user and is granted permission to perform any previously restricted actions.

Reactivate a temporary user

In addition to the automatic deactivation that takes place upon reaching the end of a temporary user’s access period, you can also manually deactivate temporary users. The steps to do so are similar to how you deactivate full access for users.

To reactivate a deactivated temporary user:

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Admin.

  2. In the left navigation, select Org Settings > Users.

  3. Next to the user’s name, click and select Reactivate User.

  4. Specify the time period for which you’d like the user to be able to access your organization.

  5. (Optional) Click Upgrade to Full User to reactivate the user as a full user.

  6. Click Save to apply your changes.

Convert a full user to a temporary user

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Admin.

  2. In the left navigation, select Org Settings > Users.

  3. Go to the user profile of the user you want and next to the user’s name, click and select Make Temporary User.

  4. Specify the time period for which you’d like the user to be able to access your org.

  5. Click Save to apply your changes and convert the user to a temporary user.

Restrictions on temporary users

You can assign any of the roles within Command to temporary users, regardless of the role assigned to them. However, there are a set of actions that they cannot perform:

  • Export/download any information from Command, including but not limited to camera footage, audit logs, user info, device info, and so on.

  • Accept any terms and conditions for the organization on behalf of the organization; for example, analytics terms and conditions.

  • Delete users (although they can deactivate users as permitted by their role).

  • Convert temporary users to full users, including themselves.
