This article provides an overview of the different user permissions, how they can be applied, and the features and configurations they allow access to.

When thinking about permissions, the most important concept to keep in mind is the difference between organization and site permissions. 

  • Organization permissions allow users to manage accounts in Command
  • Site permissions set user access to cameras

Because they have different purposes, they are separate. However, users will need to have permissions at the organization and site levels to make full use of Command.

Setting permissions

Permissions can be set at the following levels:

  • Organization: Access to Command and ability to manage user accounts. 
  • Site: Access to camera footage and settings
  • Group: Access to camera footage and settings

How to set organization permissions

  • Go to the top left and click on your orgs name
  • Navigate the dropdown menu to 'Settings'
  • Scroll halfway down the page to where it says your org name
  • Click '+ Add another user'
  • Type in users email then click 'Next'
  • Allocate them the desired permissions
  • Click 'Next' when done
  • Click 'Confirm' to send that user a command invite

How to set permissions on a site/group

  • Go to the 'sites' tab
  • Navigate to the site you would like configure the permissions for
  • click the '...' in the top right hand corner
  • Click 'Edit Permissions'
  • Add users email there and set their desired permission(Admin/Viewer) level

Permission considerations

  • Organization and site permissions are set separately
  • Sites and groups do not inherit user membership and permissions from the organization
  • Groups inherit user membership and permissions parent site or group

Permissions types

There are two permission types - Viewer and Admin. The capabilities of each is as follows:

  • Viewer: Permits users to view, archive and take snapshots of footage
  • Admin:  Permits users to view, archive, share and take snapshots of footage and perform system configurations

Common user permission configurations

Permit users to be able to view, archive and take snapshots of footage:

  • Organization viewer permission 
  • Site viewer permissions on appropriate sites or groups 

Permit a user to view, archive, share and take snapshots of footage and perform system configurations and set other users permissions globally:

  • Organization admin permission
  • Site admin permission on all appropriate sites or groups 

Permit a user to view, archive, share and take snapshots of footage and perform system configurations and set other users permissions on certain cameras:

  • Organization viewer permissions 
  • Admin permissions on all appropriate sites or groups 

Breakdown by Permission Levels 

Below is a detailed breakdown of the features and configurations available to users at different permission levels.

Organization Viewer 

An Organization Viewer has the minimum level of access needed to view the organization.  Capabilities include being able to:

  • View the Organization when logged in
  • Set personal Notifications
  • Set personal 2FA settings
  • Create a custom grid and modify grid settings
  • View the Map page
  • View his/her own Archives
  • View cameras that have not been added to a Site or Group

Organization Admin 

An Organization Admin has the ability to view and configure organization-wide settings.  Capabilities include being able to:

  • View the Organization when logged in
  • Set personal Notifications
  • Set personal 2FA settings
  • Create a custom grid and modify grid settings
  • View the Map page
  • View his/her own Archives
  • View cameras that have not been added to a Site or Group
  • Add, delete and set user permissions on the Organization
  • Configure organization-wide settings including Maximum Archive Duration, enable/disable Cloud Backups globally and Default Camera Playback Quality
  • Rename or delete the Organization
  • Create new Sites within the organization
  • Add cameras to the organization
  • Move cameras from "All Cameras" default site into any Site or Group for which they have Admin permissions

Site Viewer 

Site Viewers can access live and recorded footage in-site.  Capabilities include being able to:

  • View live streams and set their own playback quality
  • View History and playback recorded footage
  • Perform Motion searches
  • View camera Settings
  • View camera Stats
  • Utilize digital zoom
  • Utilize snap shot
  • Archive video and download as mp4

Site Admin 

Site Admins can access live and recorded footage in-site as well as make inter-site configurations.

  • Add, delete and set user permissions on a site (User must be added to org first)
  • Change Site name
  • Create Groups in the Site
  • Add, remove and change a camera Site or Group
  • View live streams and set their own playback quality
  • View History and playback recorded footage
  • Perform Motion searches
  • Utilize snap shot
  • Archive video and download as mp4
  • Configure Settings including a cameras Name, Orientation, and map Location
  • Utilize auto and manual focus
  • Utilize optically and digital zoom
  • Access and configure Additional Settings including, Custom Focal Point, Cloud Backup, Motion Detection, Audio and reboot 
  • Share live links (SMS and Link) 
  • Create embedded links
  • View camera stats

Group Viewer 

Group Viewers can access live and recorded footage in-group.

  • View live streams and set their own playback quality
  • View History and playback recorded footage
  • Perform Motion searches
  • View camera Settings
  • View camera Stats
  • Utilize digital zoom
  • Take a snap shot
  • Archive video and download as mp4

Group Admin 

Group Admins can access live and recorded footage in-group as well as make inter-group configurations.

  • Add, delete and set user permissions on a Group (User must be added to org first)
  • Change Group name
  • Create Groups in the Group (if nesting level has not been reached)
  • Add, remove and change a cameras Group (if they
  • View live streams and set their own playback quality
  • View History and playback recorded footage

  • Archive video and download as mp4
  • Configure Settings including a cameras Name, Orientation, and map Location
