History Player Search

Use search within the history player for faster and more intuitive investigations

History player search allows users to quickly locate individuals or vehicles across multiple cameras to create a timeline of their movements. This eliminates the need to scrub footage manually and offers a seamless and efficient way to track persons or vehicles of interest.


Search for people

Face search needs to be enabled on the camera to use this feature. For optimal accuracy, ensure faces are visible. Obstructions like hats and masks may affect detection quality. See User Guide for People Analytics for best practice guidelines.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select a camera and click History.

    Note: You can also access history player search using face search, attribute search, or AI-powered search.

  3. Open the history player to the date and time you want to review.

  4. Pause the history player once the individual is visible.

  5. All detected individuals in the frame are automatically highlighted.

    Note: The highlights will only appear if your cursor is on the video feed.

  6. Drag your cursor over the highlighted person to view their trajectory and movement within the camera’s frame.

  7. Click the highlighted individual to generate a timeline of their sightings and associated footage.

  8. Click any thumbnail in the timeline to play the footage in the history player. You can archive the clip, share it with stakeholders, or add it to an incident report.

  9. Click to modify the date and time range.

  10. Click to sort the order of the timeline.

  11. Click save a person as Persons of Interest (POI).

    1. Enter a name.

    2. (Optional) Add tags.

    3. Click Create.


Search for vehicles

Vehicle analytics needs to be enabled on the camera to use this feature. For optimal accuracy, ensure vehicle are visible as obstructions may affect detection quality. See Vehicle Analytics for more details.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select a camera and click History.

  3. Open the history player to the date and time you want to review.

  4. Pause the history player once the vehicle is visible.

  5. All detected vehicles in the frame are automatically highlighted.

    Note: The highlights will only appear if your cursor is on the video feed.

  6. Drag your cursor over the highlighted vehicle to view its trajectory and movement within the camera’s frame.

  7. Click the highlighted vehicle to generate a timeline of its sightings and associated footage.

  8. You can modify the vehicle color, make, and model within the investigation panel to expand or modify the search results.

  9. Click any thumbnail in the timeline to play the footage in the history player. You can archive the clip, share it with stakeholders, or add it to an incident report.

  10. Click to modify the date and time range.

  11. Click to sort the order of the timeline.


Disable history player search for an organization

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras > Camera Settings .

  2. You can change the default history player search setting. When turned off, history player search will not be triggered automatically when you pause the video in the history player. This setting impacts all users within the organization.

When the default is off, users can still trigger history player search as needed by clicking within the history player and selecting History Player Search.


Manage history player search by user

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select a camera and click History.

  3. Click to enable or disable this feature by checking or unchecking History Player Search.

Changing this setting only affects the user who makes the change.. This choice persists across all cameras the user can access.


Considerations

  • All Verkada camera models support History Player Search, except for the D30, D40, D50, D80, CD22, CD22-E and CM22 models.

  • This feature is not currently supported in multi-camera playback.

  • This feature is not currently supported on mobile (web & app).
