Use Optical Zoom and Auto Focus

Learn how to use optical zoom and auto focus on specific Verkada cameras

Updated yesterday

Verkada's D30, D50, CD51/52, CD61/62/63, CB51/52, and CB61/62 cameras are equipped with a varifocal lens to zoom and focus. Optical zoom is meant to adjust the field of view during installation; not for continual adjustments. To zoom in on live or historical view, use digital zoom.

You must have Site Admin permissions to zoom or focus a camera. Learn more about Roles and Permissions for Cameras.

Use optical zoom

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select the camera footage you want to view.

  3. At the bottom left, click the SQ/HQ dropdown and select Optical Zoom.

  4. Use the slider to adjust the zoom.

It can take 30–45 seconds to fully complete the zoom adjustment and auto-focus cycle.

Use auto focus

Fix blurry images with auto focus

A camera attempts to skillfully (and automatically) focus on several regions. In the event that an image is blurry, reapply the Auto Focus feature to bring the image into focus.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select the camera footage you want to view.

  3. At the bottom left, click the SQ/HQ dropdown and select Auto Focus.

  4. Wait while the camera skillfully focuses the image.

Fix a blurry image with a custom focal point

If the image is still blurry after running Auto Focus, or you want to select a certain object as the focal point, you can set a custom focal point.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select the camera footage you want to view.

  3. At the bottom right, click Settings.

  4. At the top of Settings, click the Devices tab.

  5. Under Autofocus > Custom, select Change Focus Point.

  6. Select the desired focus point from the grid; the changes should autosave.

Use manual focus

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select the camera footage you want to view.

  3. At the bottom left, click the SQ/HQ dropdown and select Manual Focus.

  4. Use the slider to manually focus the camera. (It may take a few seconds for the camera to focus on the image.)

Troubleshooting tips

If none of the steps above work, try zooming in slightly and then run the autofocus feature.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Cameras.

  2. Select the camera footage you want to view.

  3. At the bottom left, click the SQ/HQ dropdown and select Optical Zoom.

  4. Click the plus icon (twice).

  5. Wait for the optical zoom to adjust.

  6. At the bottom left, click the SQ/HQ dropdown and select Autofocus.

  7. Wait for the autofocus to finish.
