Learn how to set up and view alerts and events for your Verkada Alarms

The Verkada Command platform allows you to set up highly flexible alerts for any reading from a Verkada Alarms product.

Understand alarms event types for alerts

Alert Type


Device Online/Offline Status

Selected alarms product is online / offline

Alarm Site Status

Selected alarm site is armed or disarmed

Cellular Module Status

Selected cellular backup is in one or many of the following states

  • Active: currently in use

  • On Standby: Connected to the cellular network and not in use

  • Disconnected: Cell backup was disconnected from the device

  • Offline: Unable to connect to the cellular network

Sensor Events

Receive an alert when one of the following events is detected:

  • Door Opened

  • Door Held Opened

  • Glass Break Detected

  • Motion Detected

  • Panic Button Pressed

  • Water Detected

Device Power Status

A wireless sensor changes battery state:

  • Battery Low

  • Battery OK

Configure alerts

You can create alerts from the Alerts or Admin pages. The Alerts page allows any Command user to easily view all alerts where they are subscribed, identify important events within their sites, and quickly find relevant footage. Learn how to create alerts with the Alerts page.

Site Admins can then filter these notifications by date, event type, device name, or site.

Access the Admin page

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Admin.

  2. On Admin > Org Settings, click Manage Alerts.

  3. At the top right, click New Alert.

  4. Configure the following settings, as outlined below:

    1. Events—You want to include in the alert (type, device, site).

    2. Recipients—Designated people who can receive alerts and form of communication.

    3. Schedule—When alerts are scheduled to be sent.

    4. Settings—Name and description of the alert. The settings are device-specific.

Create Alert > Events

  1. Select Alarms as the Verkada product type.

  2. On Select Event: Search for or select an event to be alerted about, and click Next.

  3. Select the Alarms device and click Next.

  4. Select the desired event and click Next.

  5. Select Devices. You can configure events to be site-specific, org wide, and/or device-specific.

    • When you select alerts by Site name or Organization, new devices added after alert creation will automatically generate alerts.

    • When you select events by site name, alarm configured sites are designated with the alarm badge.

  6. Click Done and continue with recipients.

Note: Wired sensors are not supported at this time as individual selectable devices, but you can select Sites or Entire Organization to configure them for alerts.

Create Alert > Recipients

  1. On Recipients, you can search or select other Command users individually or you can assign the alert to a group.

    • Any recipient added to this alert will see it appear under the Shared Alerts section of their Alerts page.

    • Recipients can be notified either via a push notification, SMS, or email. By default, you will be added to the alert created.

  2. Click Done and continue with the schedule.

  1. Select the notification schedule. In the Events section, you must specify what days and time spans you want alerts to create for the criteria you chose.

    Note: By default, events are generated 24/7, and motion alert schedules are only configurable from the Alerts page. The examples below show 2 different ways to edit the schedule.

  2. Click Next (on Create Alert page) or Done (on Notification Schedule) and continue with Settings.

Create Alert > Settings

  1. Select your device's notification preference (horn speaker or audio file).

    In addition to notifying individuals, you can configure your horn speaker to play given a specific alert. These alerts can be text-to-speech or an uploaded MP3 file that plays when an alert event occurs.

  2. Click Done.

  3. Continue with the device and event settings, as needed.
