Configure New Alarms Site Settings

Learn how to configure your alarm's site settings

Updated this week

This article is a guide for New Alarms. Refer to this article if you have classic Alarms. See New Alarms vs Classic Alarms if you are unsure which version of Alarms you have.

When you create a New Alarms site in Verkada Command, you need to go through a few steps to configure settings for the site.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > New Alarms .

  2. Create an Alarm site or select the alarm site that you want to configure.

  3. In the left navigation, select Settings.

Alarm settings

Click to expand each option below to learn more about the settings options.

Site Address and Dispatch Info

  • Business name - Name of the location to provide emergency services during dispatch. The business name helps emergency services locate the site precisely during an alarm.

  • Address - Physical location of your Alarms site. Ensure this address is accurate and specific. Verkada uses this address in case emergency services need to be dispatched.

  • Permit number (optional) - Add a permit number to share with emergency services when dispatch is requested. This is sometimes a requirement in certain counties and states and should be acquired via your local Verkada Partner, as requirements differ across jurisdictions. You can also use this field to provide property entry or gate codes for the monitoring team to provide emergency services.

  • Emergency Dispatch - Details (name, address, and phone number) of the emergency services that will be contacted in case of an alarm.

  • Override - Allows users to override the default emergency dispatch contact. See PSAP override in New Alarms for more information.

Keycodes

  • Keycodes allow users to arm/disarm partitions in an alarm site from a keypad and resolve an alarm raised in that partition.

  • You can add a user keycode for existing Verkada users or a general keycode for guests or groups.

    • User keycodes are assigned to individuals and allow users to arm/disarm partitions in an alarm site.

    • General keycodes are not linked to individual accounts but are assigned generic names for shared use. They allow users to arm/disarm specific partitions in an alarm site. These keycodes are ideal for groups like janitorial staff or as a master keycode for emergencies.

    • Keycodes can only resolve an alarm if they have access to all involved partitions. Meaning the partition that triggered the alarm and any other partitions that generated events after the alarm was raised.

Add a keycode

  • Click Add Keycode.

    • For a user keycode, select the user’s name from the dropdown, then select the partitions for which the user can arm, disarm, and resolve alarms.

    • For a general keycode, enter the group name and select the partitions for which the group can arm, disarm, and resolve alarms.

Edit a keycode

  1. Next to the keycode you want to edit, click > Edit keycode.

  2. To modify the partitions a keycode can arm, disarm, or resolve alarms for, use the dropdown to select or deselect partitions. You can select All Partitions if needed but do so carefully.

We strongly recommend against having keycode permissions that are allowed to disarm partitions containing panic buttons.

Delete a keycode

Click next to a keycode to delete it.

You can enter this code to trigger an alarm on the alarm console in case of an emergency. When a duress code is entered into the keypad, the system disarms the site, but still silently triggers an alarm.

Arm/Disarm via Access Control

Verkada Access Control integrates with New Alarms to arm and disarm both camera-only and sensor alarm sites.

  • Arm partitions: Badge the reader twice within 5 seconds.

  • Disarm partitions: Badge the reader once. You will hear a single beep when the partitions are disarmed.

Configuration

  1. Under Arm/Disarm via Access Control, click + Select Doors.

  2. Select the doors that will automatically arm or disarm the partition when unlocked.

Note: This option is only available if the door exists in the same site as the alarm site.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Choose the partition(s) the door should arm and/or disarm.

Supported methods

Disarm

The following access-granted methods can disarm partitions in an alarm site:

  • Badge swipe

  • Bluetooth unlock

  • Mobile NFC

  • Entry code

  • LPR unlock

Remote unlock and nearby unlock are not supported as access-granted methods for disarming partitions in an alarm site.

Arm

The following access methods can arm partitions in an alarm site:

  • Badge swipe

  • Mobile NFC

  • Entry code

Bluetooth unlock is not supported for double badging and cannot be used to arm the site.

  • For camera partitions, arming and disarming occur through the cloud, allowing access events to disarm the alarm site.

  • For sensor partitions that include an alarm panel, the access controller and alarm panel communicate locally using peer-to-peer connectivity to perform disarm actions. If your access controller is not connecting to the alarm system, see Cross-Device Local Connections for Access Control for more information.

Delays

  • You can set entry and exit delays for partitions in an alarm site. Delays are crucial if a keypad is placed indoors or in a back-of-house area, this allows employees time to arm and exit or enter and disarm the partitions.

  • Entry Delay - number of seconds to wait after a trigger event occurs before raising an alarm.

  • Exit Delay - number of seconds to wait before arming a partition.

  • Click the dropdown under Entry and/or Exit Delay to select the delay for the partition.

Alarm License

  • This section shows the number and type of active licenses for the site, along with the configured camera triggers.

    • Basic License - Supports only sensor triggers and does not include video verification or camera triggers.

    • Advanced License -Allows up to 15 camera triggers per license. Supports video verification and camera-based triggers. Licenses automatically stack when more than 15 cameras are used as triggers.

  • Each Alarm site requires at least one New Alarms license.

Other Settings

You can delete the alarm site by clicking Remove Site.
