Set up Mobile NFC in Command to enable tap to unlock

Updated over a month ago

Verkada supports secure mobile NFC credentials, allowing employees to unlock doors with a tap of their Android phones. Before users can add the mobile credential Mobile NFC needs to be enabled on your Command organization.

What you need

  • An Android phone and version that supports NFC

  • Confirm that your phone is password protected

  • A Command Account with Mobile NFC enabled

  • Latest Verkada Pass version installed on your phone from the Google Play Store (version 3.2.0.152 or later)

Android Mobile NFC only works on Verkada readers.

Enable NFC unlock

Android Mobile NFC is built into the Verkada Pass app. Once you have met the prerequisites above you are ready to start using Android Mobile NFC.

  1. Log in to the Verkada Pass app.

  2. In the top left, click .

  3. At the bottom, click Settings.

  4. Toggle on NFC Unlock.

  5. When you present your Android phone to a Verkada reader, you’ll receive haptic feedback if a Mobile NFC Unlock occurs. Haptic feedback does not occur for Bluetooth unlock events.

Badge in with a locked phone

By default, users can only use NFC unlock when their phones are unlocked. Admins can enable the Allow users to badge in with a locked phone setting to allow users to open doors without unlocking their phones. See Mobile NFC - Command Management for more information.

On many Android phones it is possible to require the device to be unlocked before using NFC. Consult the user manual for your phone to see how to enable this feature to prevent other people from using your phone to unlock doors.

Troubleshooting

Verify the following items if you are experiencing issues with Android Mobile NFC:

  • NFC is compatible and turned on for your phone.

  • Mobile NFC is enabled for your user in Command.
