Set Up the BC82 Alarm Console

Learn how to set up the Verkada BC82 Alarm console.

The Verkada BC82 alarm console is used to arm/disarm alarm sites, with additional functionality, including a digital panic button, device status page, event feed, integrated camera, microphone for remote monitoring and talk-down from Verkada Command, 90db siren, and a built-in wireless hub to connect wireless sensors.

Before you begin

Before you begin the setup, review the requirements and recommendations.

Requirements

The BC82 requires 802.3at for power and network connectivity and includes a mounting bracket and the associated mounting hardware.

Recommendation

Once you take the alarm console out of the box, we recommend that you stage the console and test its functionality before mounting:

1

Attach an Ethernet cable to the BC82 located on the back of the console.

2

Connect the Ethernet cable to an open port on a Power over Ethernet (PoE) (802.3at) switch.

Add the device to Command

1

Once the console powers on, using the serial number located on the box or on the console display, add the device to Command via the web interface.

2

In Command, ensure the console is added to the appropriate alarm site.

3

If the console has network connectivity to Verkada servers and the serial number has been added to Command, you should be redirected to this keypad interface:

Test keypad features

Prior to mounting to its final location, test the keypad features to ensure everything is working as expected:

Home screen

The home screen shows status events of critical issues (yellow box) and sensors with activity (blue box). You can touch either box to pull up the associated devices.

Camera page

From the home screen, swipe left to see the camera view. From here, you can select cameras in the site and view them.

Devices page

From the home screen, swipe right to go to the devices page. From here, you can see all devices and the last event that exists in the alarm site. This should mirror the Devices tab in the Alarms site in Command.

Arm tab

On the Arm tab, you can test arm/disarm functionality with your configured key codes in Command.

Two-Way Talk-Down and Listening In

Recommendation. This test is best performed with two people in separate rooms. Please have one individual in front of the console and the other on the Command web interface.

On the Command UI, the Alarm console should display a live feed.

  • To test the listen-in feature, unmute the alarm console, where you should hear the sounds that the console is picking up.

  • To test two-way talk-down, initiate a video call by pressing the Call button in the video feed of the console.

You can also choose to plug in a 3.5-mm audio jack to the console for broader/louder coverage for talk-down communications, including outdoor speakers.

Panic button

Press the digital panic button to test an immediate alarm. You can disarm it with your configured key codes or via the Command web interface.

Add wireless sensors

You have two options on how to add new wireless sensors:

  • Via the main devices page and enter the serial number

  • On the Alarms devices page, click the plus (+) symbol > Add wireless sensors.

Once events occur or on the first boot of the sensor, you should see the connection from the BC82 to the sensor.

After testing these features, you can proceed to mount the alarm console in its final location using the mounting instructions included in the box.
