BP32 Alarm Panel Configurations and Battery Backup Estimator

Updated over a week ago

The BP32 includes one RS-485 output for connecting keypads and expanders. You can connect supported devices and calculate battery backup duration for different configurations.

Connect the BK22 keypad

  • RS-485 connection (recommended) - To fully back up your BK22 keypad during a power failure or connectivity outage, connect it to the BP32 using the RS-485 Out port. This connection provides up to 8 hours of battery backup for both the BK22 (at 80% brightness) and the BP32.

  • LAN connection - For a simpler installation, connect the BK22 keypad to the BP32 via LAN. This provides up to 30 hours of battery backup for the BP32, but the BK22 will not be backed up during a power failure or connectivity outage.

Additional configuration options

  • LAN: You can connect devices such as the WH52 Wireless Hub to expand coverage.

  • RS-485 port: You can connect additional devices through the RS-485 Out port. Battery backup varies depending on the configuration:

    • Wireless repeaters:

      • BP32 with 1x WH32 attached

      • BP32 with 4x WH32 daisy chained

    • Wired expanders:

      • BP32 with BE32 + 8 door contact sensors

      • BP32 with BE32 + 8 motion sensors

    • Siren and strobe:

      • BP32 with 1x BZ32

Calculate battery backup hours for the BP32

Calculate your BP32 panel’s battery backup runtime based on the total power draw of connected devices. This helps you plan for the desired uptime during a power outage.

Use the following formula:

Battery backup (hours) = 42.9 Wh ÷ [Total power draw of connected devices]

The BP32 has an effective battery capacity of 42.9 Wh.

Example configurations

Configuration

Power Draw

Available Battery Backup (hours)

BP32 with 1x WH32

2.2 W

Up to 19 hrs

BP32 with 4x WH32 daisy chained

2.81 W

Up to 15 hrs

BP32 with BK22 (display on full time, 80% brightness)

5.24 W

Up to 8 hrs

BP32 with BK22 (display on full time, 50% brightness)

4.51W

Up to 10 hrs

BP32 with BK22 (display on full time, 25% brightness)

4.01 W

Up to 11 hrs

BP32 with BK22 (display on full time, 1% brightness)

3.55 W

Up to 12 hrs

BP32 with BE32 + 8 Door Sensors

2.78 W

Up to 15 hrs

BP32 with BE32 + 8 Motion Sensors

3.98 W

Up to 11 hrs

BP32 with BE32 + 8 Motion Sensors + 15 min siren (1.7A) *

4.81W

Up to 9 hrs

The 15-minute siren backup time is based on red LEDs at 100% volume. The BP32 supports a maximum RS-485 output of 6 W.

Recharge time

The system allocates a minimum of 5.35 W for battery charging, with additional power available if system load permits. At this rate, a fully depleted BP32 battery recharges in about 11.5 hours.
