Extended Cloud Backup Licensing

Learn how to apply extended cloud backup licensing

Included with your Verkada camera license is 30 days of continuous cloud backup. If you need more than 30 days of cloud backup retention, you can purchase per-camera licenses for extended cloud backup. These licenses are available in packs of 30-day retention. You can stack as many packs as needed to achieve the desired retention period. For pricing information, contact Verkada Sales at [email protected].

Enable extended cloud backup

When you add an extended cloud storage license, it doesn’t automatically enable cloud backup for the camera. We recommend enabling cloud backup once the license has been claimed and assigned to a camera. Once this license is applied, all new footage backed up to the cloud is saved for the extended backup retention period.

You will receive an email from Verkada with purchase information and license keys. Claim your license key(s) in Command.

Once the license keys have been claimed, Extended Cloud Backup will appear under the Product Licenses tab with information on claimed license packs.

Click on **Extended Cloud Backup **and navigate to the ECB management page.

Click Add Cameras and select the cameras that require extended cloud storage. Each camera’s cloud retention starts with a free 30-day base retention. Add additional packs to extend the retention period as needed. This page will display the total cloud retention days for each selected camera and the remaining available packs.

If different cameras require different retention, repeat this process as needed. ​

Proceed to the confirmation screen and configure cloud backup settings for selected cameras.

Click Enable Cloud Backup to complete the setup. You will be taken back to the management page, which displays a summary of your current ECB configurations, including retention periods, a list of cameras, and available or needed license packs.

The CH52 will need 4 extended cloud backup licenses (one for each sensor) if you want to extend cloud storage for the footage on the entire camera.

FAQs

What are Extended Cloud Backup (ECB) license packs?

Verkada’s Extended Cloud Backup licenses are available in packs. Each pack provides 30 days of cloud storage retention and can only be applied to a single camera. This allows customers the flexibility to purchase extended cloud storage in 30-day increments for their cameras.

How does license stacking work?

ECB licenses can be purchased in 30-day packs and stacked to achieve the desired retention period. For instance, to get 180-day retention for 100 cameras, you would need to purchase 500 licenses (5 packs per camera x 100 cameras). Each camera comes with a base 30-day free cloud backup, so you only need to purchase packs for the additional retention.

What about the free 30-day cloud backup? How does ECB licensing account for it?

All Verkada camera licenses include free 30-day cloud backup. Any ECB pack you purchase will be added to this base. For example, if you buy 2 packs for one camera, you will have a total of 90 days (30 days free + 60 days from packs).

Is there a limit to the extended retention that can be achieved by stacking packs?

Yes, you can stack ECB license packs to achieve a maximum retention of 10 years per camera.

Do ECB licenses co-terminate?

Yes, all ECB licenses co-terminate with other Command licenses, giving you a single expiration date for all your Command licenses, including ECB. See Calculate License Expiration Date for more information.

How can I utilize purchased ECB licenses?

To utilize ECB licenses, customers must follow these steps:

Claim purchased ECB licenses in Command.Assign claimed ECB licenses to specific cameras.Enable cloud backup in the camera’s settings.

Extended cloud retention will only be applied if all these steps are completed. We recommend completing these steps as soon as possible.

Can I reallocate assigned ECB licenses?

Yes, you can reallocate active licenses at any time. Any changes in retention will take effect from that point forward and are not retroactive. There is no change in retention for any footage successfully backed up to cloud prior to such change.

Can I assign a custom retention to a camera, such as 192 days?

No, retention can only be set in multiples of 30 days. In this case, you can choose either 180 days (5 packs plus the free base pack) or 210 days (6 packs plus the free base pack).

If I stack 11 packs (plus free base pack), do I get 360 days or 365 days of retention?

You will get 365 days of retention. There are three standard retentions that customers get when stacking following packs on the free base pack:

  • 11 packs = 365 days of cloud retention

  • 23 packs = 730 days of cloud retention

  • 35 packs = 1095 days of cloud retention

For all other stacking combinations, customers will get multiple of 30-days. For example: Stacking 15 packs for a camera, customers will get (15+1) * 30 = 480 days.

Remember to take into account the free 30 days of cloud storage that’s available for all cameras by default when calculating how many packs are needed.

What happens to ECB licenses assigned to a camera that was deleted from Command?

ECB licenses linked to a deleted camera will become available for reassignment to another camera. This reassignment requires customer action; Verkada does not automatically reassign these packs. The expiration date of these licenses will not be extended.
