# Configure Power Modes on the CR63-E

The CR63-E Remote Deployment Camera supports three power modes to help you balance battery life with the level of surveillance your deployment requires. You can switch between modes at any time in Verkada Command.

<table><thead><tr><th width="184.27734375">Mode</th><th width="287.7890625">Description</th><th>Use Case</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Performance Mode</strong></td><td>Performance Mode delivers the full camera experience with no power-saving adjustments. The camera streams video, records history, runs analytics, and performs license plate recognition (LPR) just like any other Verkada Bullet camera.</td><td>Use Performance Mode when your site has reliable sunlight coverage throughout the day or a hardwired power source.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Standard Mode</strong></td><td>Standard mode maintains full feature parity and functionality with Performance Mode while reducing power draw. Users may notice slightly higher latency when interacting with the device within Command. </td><td>Use Standard Mode in deployments that may experience occasional downtime in Performance Mode or conserving battery life is a priority. This is the recommended mode for most remote solar-powered deployments.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>LPR Only Mode</strong></td><td>LPR Only Mode is designed for deployments where license plate detection is the sole requirement. The camera dedicates all resources to plate detection and logging, and disables video streaming and history recording. No live stream is available, and no footage is stored.</td><td>Use LPR Only Mode when license plate capture is the only requirement and maximizing battery life is the top priority.</td></tr></tbody></table>

For power consumption in each power mode, see [Camera Power Requirements](https://help.verkada.com/verkada-cameras/installation/camera-power-requirements#remote-series).

## FAQ

<details>

<summary>Why do my IR lights appear dim when using LPR?</summary>

The CR63-E is optimized for remote, solar-powered deployments, where conserving power is critical.

In LPR mode, the camera uses adaptive IR behavior:

* IR lights turn on only during license plate capture
* IR remains off otherwise to reduce power consumption

Because IR is not continuously active, the scene may appear dimmer than cameras that provide constant IR illumination. However, captures are optimized specifically for license plate accuracy.

{% hint style="warning" %}
This behavior applies only to cameras configured in an LPR mode. Cameras used for people and vehicle analytics, or for any non-LPR configuration, operate their IR lights continuously.
{% endhint %}

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I switch power modes at any time?</summary>

Yes. You can [change the power](#configuration) mode at any time in Verkada Command. The change takes effect on the camera shortly after saving.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will switching to LPR Only Mode delete my existing video history?</summary>

No, switching to LPR Only Mode stops new video from being recorded going forward, but any footage already saved to the camera remains accessible in Command. Recording will resume once the camera is switched to a different power mode.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can the CR63-E run both LPR and people/vehicle analytics at the same time?</summary>

No. The CR63-E operates in either LPR mode or People and Vehicle Analytics mode — not both simultaneously.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I check my camera's battery level?</summary>

In Command, click into the camera and select **Analytics** below the live feed.
