# Offline Clip Retrieval

Bus video security systems run on the bus battery and power down when the bus is turned off. Offline Clip Retrieval lets a Site Admin request footage from a powered-off bus. The system briefly turns on, uploads the requested clips to the cloud, and returns to a low-power state.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Offline Clip Retrieval monitors battery voltage while the system is asleep. If the voltage drops below the configured threshold, the system shuts down completely, even if requests are still pending. This keeps the feature from draining the bus battery or preventing the bus from starting the next day.
{% endhint %}

### Feature overview

Use Offline Clip Retrieval when you need footage from a bus that is powered off.

* Requests submitted overnight (6 PM–8 AM) are processed at the next 30-minute wake interval.
* After the bus has been off for 72 hours, the system cannot be woken remotely. Pending requests are fulfilled the next time the bus powers on.
* You can view footage as it uploads. Verkada Command sends an event when a retrieval starts, completes, or fails.
* Multiple requests are queued and processed in order.
* If a request cannot finish during one wake cycle, the remaining footage uploads the next time the bus powers on.

### Request an offline clip

{% hint style="danger" %}
You must have Site Admin permissions to request an offline clip.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Transportation.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Select the offline vehicle.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**In Global Positioning System (GPS) History, choose the date and time range.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Select the cameras to include.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Choose standard quality (SQ) or high quality (HQ).**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Submit the request.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
An offline vehicle remains reachable for clip requests for 15 minutes after the ignition is turned off in SQ and 1 minute in HQ.
{% endhint %}

### Disable Offline Clip Retrieval

Disable Offline Clip Retrieval in device settings when you need zero standby battery draw.

The system fully powers off after the ignition-off delay. Footage that has not uploaded to the cloud becomes available the next time the bus powers on.

### Install the recommended battery accessory

For added safety, install the ACC-TSP-BAT-1200Wh battery accessory. It provides a dedicated 600 watt-hour (Wh) reserve for the video system, separate from the bus starting battery.

### Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>What should I do if a request stays pending for a long time?</summary>

* Overnight (6 PM–8 AM), allow up to 30 minutes for the system to wake.
* After the bus has been off for 72 hours, the request is fulfilled the next time the bus powers on.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What should I do if a request fails with a power error?</summary>

The system shut down to protect the bus battery. The system will complete the request the next time the bus powers on.

Check the battery's condition and connections. If this failure continues, consider the ACC-TSP-BAT-1200Wh accessory.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What should I do if the request option is not visible?</summary>

* Confirm that you have Site Admin permissions.
* Confirm that Offline Clip Retrieval is enabled in the device settings.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.verkada.com/transportation/configuration/offline-clip-retrieval.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
