# Employee Check-In with Guest

Many organizations use Verkada Guest to account for everyone on site who isn't based there full-time. Employee Check-in extends the solution for internal staff, who can identify themselves as employees rather than sign in as visitors.

## Employee check-in methods

Guest supports two ways for employees to check in:

<table><thead><tr><th width="173.625">Method</th><th width="329.7109375">Description</th><th>Requires Verkada Access Control?</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/guest/configuration/employee-check-in-with-guest/manual-employee-check-in-using-employee-id.md">Manual Check-in</a></td><td>Validate employees by their employee ID number. Employees enter this value during sign-in or event registration.</td><td>No</td></tr><tr><td><a href="/guest/configuration/employee-check-in-with-guest/automatic-employee-check-in.md">Automatic Check-in</a></td><td>Create a record in Guest when an employee opens an admin-defined door.</td><td>Yes</td></tr></tbody></table>

***

## Manage employee Visit Records

The following data is pulled in from the Command user profile to Guest:

* First Name
* Last Name
* User Photo
* Email
* Phone Number
* Employee Title
* Department
* Company Name

Key Guest features are applicable to employees who sign in through Guest, including [bulk messaging](/guest/notifications/send-custom-messages-to-guests.md), [temporary Wi-Fi credentials](/guest/configuration/meraki-wi-fi-integration-for-guest.md), [temporary door access](/guest/configuration/door-access-for-guests.md), and self sign-out.

**Using Employee Check-in with Verkada Access Control**

Employees who sign in through Guest can access additional doors during their visit. They can use their existing credentials to open these doors. Depending on the [Visit Access Type](/access-control/users-and-credentials/add-a-user-to-the-verkada-access-system/visitor-access-visit-access-type.md#create-a-visit-access-type) settings, Guest can also provide a temporary entry code, QR code, or one or more web unlock links. Guest cannot issue new keycards or Face Unlock credentials during a visit.
{% endhint %}

### Manage employees signed in at another Guest site

If an employee checks in while another visit record for them is still signed in, then a Guest user must review the visit.&#x20;

Approving the new sign-in signs the visitor out of their previous visits.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.verkada.com/guest/configuration/employee-check-in-with-guest.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
