Motion events can be used to identify when motion, people or vehicles are detected in the camera's field of view. You can set up alerts to notify users that motion has been detected, thereby reducing the need for active monitoring of the camera feed.
Since every camera looks upon a different scene, motion event settings should be configured per camera to ensure you’re only detecting events you’re interested in.
Verkada allows you to configure the following settings for motion events:
Region of interest: This setting allows you to select a subset of the camera's field of view to receive motion events for. Motion outside the selected area will not generate motion events. This setting is useful if part of the camera field of view sees a lot more motion than the rest of the field of view (e.g., a road, a window out to the street), or if you have a particular part of the scene that you want to monitor (e.g., a door to a storage area)
People & Vehicle filters: These filters allow you to only receive motion events when people or vehicles are detected in the region of interest you have selected. Since our algorithms sometimes are unsure whether they have detected a person or vehicle, you can set a detection threshold to determine how high confidence you want our prediction to be before an event is emitted. If you select high confidence, that means fewer events will be sent, but each event is more likely to contain an actual person or vehicle. We recommend experimenting with different settings to find the confidence level that fits your particular camera and use case.
Event detection schedule: This setting allows you to select a time period when motion events should be sent. This setting is useful if your camera overlooks an area that is busy during the day, but should be quiet at night (i.e, a classroom, hallway, or loading area). If you want to send alerts based on the motion events, alert schedules can be set independently when setting up an Alert. In this case, please ensure that the event detection schedule for each camera covers all time periods that you want to receive alerts - motion alerts will not be sent during a period in which the camera does not emit motion events.
Configure Motion Events
Motion events are configured per camera in the following way:
Select the camera you want to configure
Select Settings
Select Events
Toggle Motion Events
(Optional) Toggle the People and/or Vehicles filters if you want to only generate events when people/vehicles are detected in the frame
(Optional) Select Specify Regions to set the area(s) of the camera's field of view you want the camera to generate events for
Note: This will default to the entire image if not configured
(Optional) To generate events during a specific time & day window, toggle on Only detect during a specified time window and configure the desired start and end time/day(s) for the events
(Optional) To add additional time windows click the + Add Another option after completing the step above
Configuration notes
Site Admin permissions are required to configure motion events on a camera
There can only be one motion event configuration per camera. This configuration applies to all users in the organization

If you want to enable alerts based on your motion events, create an alert.
