Set up universal transmitter mode on a BR31 wireless door sensor

Updated over a month ago

This article is a guide for new Alarms. Refer to this article if you have classic Alarms. See New Alarms vs Classic Alarms if you are unsure which version of Alarms you have.

The Verkada BR31 wireless door sensor acts as a universal transmitter to allow wired alarm devices to connect wirelessly to Verkada hubs. This is beneficial when vertical sensor installation isn’t possible due to door framing.

  1. Collect the required components, including the main body of the BR31, a T10 Torx screwdriver, and the wired sensor.

  2. Use the T10 Torx screwdriver to unscrew the Torx screw on the underside of the BR31. Remove the backplate of the unit.

  3. Plug the leads of the wired alarm sensor into the 2 inputs at the top of the BR31 unit. Polarity does not matter in this case.

Command set up

Add the device to Command before you continue.

  1. In Verkada Command, go to All Products > Alarms.

  2. Select your Alarms site.

  3. In the left navigation, click Devices .

  4. At the top right, click to switch to the overall view of the Alarms devices.

  5. Click your sensor and select Device Settings > Enable Transmitter Mode.

Before a sensor updates its configuration, an event needs to trigger (tamper, door open/close, etc.). Press the button on the back or move a magnet near the sensor; this will prompt it to immediately retrieve the latest configuration.
