# Data Storage & Processing Locations

Select where your organization’s data will be stored and processed

### Before you begin

Refer to [Create a Command Organization](/command/getting-started/create-a-command-organization.md) to configure your organization’s data storage and processing locations.

{% hint style="danger" %}
The data processing location can only be set while creating an organization. Once the location is set, it CANNOT be changed. Read the information below before configuring your organization’s data processing location.
{% endhint %}

Data storage location refers to the physical or geographical location where an organization’s data is stored, and data processing location refers to the location where the data is being processed or analyzed. Verkada’s standard camera option includes on-camera storage retention for 30 days of continuously recorded video and image data. Verkada customers also have the flexibility to enable cloud backup storage for camera video and image data. When configuring cloud backup, customers can choose the region where their data is stored and processed in the cloud on a camera-by-camera or organization-wide basis.

By providing the option to choose cloud data storage on a camera-by-camera or organization-wide basis, Verkada provides flexibility to support customers’ data management preferences and operational needs. Additionally, by selecting a region closer to your operations, you experience reduced latency and improved access speeds, providing a more efficient and responsive experience.

### Supported data center locations

* The United States
* The European Union (EU)
* Australia

{% hint style="danger" %}
Authentication data will always be processed in the US during the organization's initial configuration.
{% endhint %}

### Cloud data center locations for camera video and image data storage (not processing)

For customers prioritizing regional storage of video and image data, Verkada supports the following locations for storage in addition to the locations provided above. If one of these locations for video and image data storage is selected, the corresponding data processing will still occur in the primary processing region for your org (United States, European Union (Ireland), or Australia):

* Canada
* Germany (Frankfurt)
* Japan (Tokyo)
* Singapore
* South Korea (Seoul)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.verkada.com/command/security/privacy-and-security-disclosure/data-storage-processing-locations.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
