# Configure Access Event Alerts

You can enable alerts for a variety of access control events, depending on your configuration needs. For more information about the access control event types see [below](#h_7c5fc24bcf).

## Configure access control event alerts

### Create Alert > Events

**Log in to Verkada Command.**

**On the Command homepage, left navigation, click Alerts.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**At the top, click New Alert.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**On Select Event, select the Access product type.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Search for or select an event to configure.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**(Optional) Some event types are general and have more specific options once you select them. If prompted, complete any additional configuration steps then click Next.**

**Select your devices/sites, based on the alert type you can configure events to be device-specific, site-specific, or all devices.**

* When you select **Sites** or **All Devices**, new devices added after alert creation will automatically generate alerts.

Click **Done** to continue.

**(Optional) Some event types have additional setup steps. If that is the case, click the additional steps and follow the prompts in the configuration window.**

Alerts for door opened, door held open (DHO), door forced open (DFO), or tailgating events only trigger if you have a door position indicator (DPI) installed.

### Create Alert > Recipients

**On Recipients, you can search for or select other Command users individually or you can assign the alert to a group.**

**Select the dropdown menu next to a user or group to choose their notification method(s). Recipients can be notified either via a push notification, SMS, or email.**

**(Optional) By default, you will be added to the alert created. To remove yourself, select the dropdown menu and click Delete.**

**Click Done and continue with the alert** [**notification schedule**](#h_1ba0bf0f43)**.**

Any recipient added to this alert will see it appear under the **Shared Alerts** section of their **Alerts** page.

### Create Alert > Notification Schedule

**On Notification Schedule, you must specify what days and times you want alerts to be sent. By default, events are generated 24/7.**

**Click Done and continue with the alert** [**device actions**](#h_831e90fc85) **or** [**finish the alert**](#h_2c78ca799a)**.**

### Create Alert > Device Action

In addition to notifying individuals, you can configure your horn speaker to play when an alert is triggered. These alerts can be text-to-speech or an uploaded MP3 file.

**On Device Action, select the horn speaker(s) you want to play your message.**

**Select your device’s notification preference (Text to Speech or Audio File).**

a. For **Text to Speech,** enter the desired message up to 200 characters.\
b. For **Audio File,** drag and drop the file or click **choose a file** to upload your audio clip.

### Finish the alert

**Click Next on the bottom right of the configuration window once you have configured all the desired alert settings.**

**Enter a descriptive name for the alert.**

**Click Done and you will start to receive alerts.**

## Understand the various access control event types

### Door events

| Alert Type                 | Description                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Door Forced Open (DFO)** | Access controlled or locked door is opened without a request to exit (REX) detected or a user who has been granted access.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            |
| **Door Held Open (DHO)**   | Door is held open. In **Installer Settings**, you can monitor this and set how long the door must be held open before an alert is sent.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               |
| **Door Opened**            | Door is opened.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       |
| **Wireless Lock Tamper**   | <p>Currently available for Assa Abloy and Allegion wireless locks. Detection includes these scenarios:</p><p>The device has been partially or fully disassembled.</p><p>Vibration or movement of the device occurs.</p><p>See <a href="../installation/wiring-best-practices-for-third-party-wireless-locks/set-up-assa-abloy-aperio-wireless-locks">Set Up Assa Abloy Aperio Wireless Locks</a>.</p> |
| **Access Granted**         | User is granted access to unlock an access-controlled door.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           |
| **Access Rejected**        | User is denied access to unlock an access-controlled door.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            |
| **Tailgating Detected**    | Tailgating is detected at a door by a nearby context camera.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          |
| **AUX Unlock**             | Door unlocked using a button wired into an AUX input.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| **REX Unlock**             | Request to exit (REX) is triggered and unlocks a door. In **Hardware** **Settings**, you can configure how long to keep a door unlocked when a REX unlocks it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        |
| **Schedule Changed**       | Door state changed based on the door’s current door schedule, a schedule exception, or when the door is assigned a new non-default door schedule.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     |
| **Low Battery**            | Wireless lock’s battery power is low.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 |

### Access controller events

| Alert Type                    | Description                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Access Controller Offline** | Access controller is unresponsive and is not working properly. See [Restart an Access Controller](https://help.verkada.com/access-control/troubleshooting/access-control-hardware-checks/restart-an-access-controller). |
| **Access Controller Tamper**  | Access controller’s enclosure lid opened.                                                                                                                                                                               |
| **Fire Alarm Released**       | Fire alarm is released.                                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| **Fire Alarm Triggered**      | First alarm is triggered.                                                                                                                                                                                               |
| **Supervised Wiring Issue**   | Wiring cut or shorted for access controller’s DPI, REX, or AUX Input that has supervised wiring enabled with end-of-line (EOL) resistors installed.                                                                     |

### Area events

| Alert Type                    | Description                                                                        |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Double Entrance Violation** | Same credential used to enter an area twice without being used to exit in-between. |
| **Double Exit Violation**     | Same credential used to exit an area twice without being used to enter in-between. |

### AUX output events

| Alert Type                 | Description                                                 |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **AUX Output Activated**   | AUX output activated in response to an activation event.    |
| **AUX Output Deactivated** | AUX output deactivated in response to a deactivation event. |

### Other events

| Alert Type                  | Description                                  |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| **Lockdown Triggered**      | An emergency lockdown scenario is activated. |
| **AUX Input State Changed** | High signal detected for AUX input.          |
